Music of Flame and Light to fire up the senses.
Full choir, organ and trumpet. Featuring two world premiers and accompaniment by Jon Scott; lead trumpeter of the Jools Holland Band showing us his alter-ego as a renowned classical composer.
Light up the sky is an uplifting afternoon concert of fire, flight and joy as we’re joined by the tremendous Jon Scott, lead trumpeter with The Jools Holland Band since the 1990s.
Several pieces combine trumpet and choir to amazing effect; O for a Shout of Sacred Joy by Alan Hovhaness is a vibrant choral work known for its exuberant and celebratory character, with sweeping melodies and intricate rhythms. Also showcasing the trumpet is At the Round Earth’s Imagin’d Corners by Michael Berkeley, a striking choral work that combines the rich, textured harmonies of the choir with the bright, penetrating sound of the trumpet.
Taking us on a flight, Charles Villiers Stanford’s The Blue Bird showcases his mastery in setting poetry to music, capturing the delicate nature of a blue bird’s flight. Eric Whitacre imagines the aspirations of Leonardo Da Vinci in the captivating Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine. We’ve also got a world premiere for you and a Duke Ellington piece arranged by our very own Nicholas Hare.
